Give us a one-sentence description of your music : The combination of clever songwriting, classic sounds, virtuoso musicianship, and great vocals with the ability to move easily between strict and improvisational styles.

Recent testimonials to our live shows:

'The recordings are stellar...but still don't quite do justice to the absolutely electric performance by this vocalist compared to the live show. Melissa Reaves has completely inspired me. Gigi Thigpen and Marsh Woodwinds bring incredible music to this area. What a unique and intimate setting for a great show. I am so glad I got my ass off the couch and saw this last night. What a friggin' treat.' - Wendy St. Cre, lead singer for Shoot to Kill

'The midsummer's midafternoon of Meldavian songs at Mack and Mack Clothing yesterday was STELLAR!! Thanks Dave Fox, Melissa Reaves, Scott Sawyer, et al, for a great afternoon of awesome aural ambiance! What a show!!' - Doug Mokaren, filmmaker, board member of the Piedmont Blues Society

'Dave, what a great concert that was! Truly memorable! Thank you very very much for two hours of sheer delight.' - Jillian Haeseller, colleague and fan of the Meldavians

'The Meldavians bring a new twist to Pop, Jazz, Rock and Blues music. Classical and Jazz keyboards over a rock beat, with high energy vocals, stinging guitar work and exceptional musicianship bring all the pomp and pagentry of the classic rock opera to the stage.' - A fan

Why do we get these reactions when we play? For a variety of reasons: the dynamic vocals of Melissa Reaves, the memorable hooks of the songs, the tight-sounding band, the audacity of variety, and so on. But above all, I think the reason our shows are so great is that we made a commitment to play every show as if it's the last show we ever get to do.

Why is it important for you to connect with music fans and what do you have to offer them as artists? I remember well the feeling I had when I heard a truly great work of music, such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, or Tommy, or Samuel Barber's Adagio for strings. I felt the same thing after seeing certain movies, like 2001: A Space Odyssey, or The Deer Hunter. It's a feeling of being overwhelmed by beauty and, at the same time, the poignancy of being alive - being touched by an artist who is simply offering their views on life and, yet, it seems to transcend life. There is a physical 'gulp' and an aching in the stomach when you realize that you have just experienced artistic beauty. Our aim with The Meldavians is no less than to try and capture that same greatness with our albums and shows. The Meldavians is not just some catchy new thing, although it does have certain 'pop' elements. Rather, it is deeply-felt and honestly-rendered music. Performing music is not a chore for us, and we work very hard to accomplish that! (not to mention the fact that we are the only real representation of the Music of Meldavia, found on the planet Teronus. Interstellar scholars should be scooping this up!).
