Shelly: Hello April! Well, Christina never had any singing lessons at all. She never had a vocal coach until after she was signed to RCA Records at age 17. The closest thing to it was that while she was growing up, I would try and teach her to listen to the lyrics and understand first the emotions the song was trying to convey, then to put that emotion into her voice....little things like that.

A fan writes: Hi Shelly! I was just reading some of your answers and some 'Rumor Mill' responses and I think it is incredible the amount of time you and the staff put into responding to the fans. I give you credit because it's something you don't have to do. You could easily not have either of these features and ignore the invading questions people ask. I just read a response that Christina never had voice lessons until she was 17 and with the label. I'm wondering, can she read music and if so when did she learn? If this gets a response I thank you ahead of time!! :)

Shelly: Hi! Thank you so very much. I truly appreciate your kind words. The truth is, I'm not sure if Christina does or does not know how to read music. She learned a bit when I taught her a little piano as she was growing up, but her coach might have taught her much more. It really never occurred to me to ask her. Sorry that I truly don't know the answer to that one.
