Preston Reed has virtually re-invented how the guitar is played. His flamboyant and exclusive style, characterized by percussive techniques and simultaneous rhythm and melody lines that dance and ricochet around each other, give his music a level of excitement that is unparalleled among today's guitarists.
Citing Bill Evans, John Coltrane
and Pat Metheny as major inspirations, Reed's music draws
on jazz, blues, funk and world influences. His award-winning
compositions present a signature sound that has earned him
global renown for its emotional power and stylistic innovation.
Preston Reed's first appearance in concert, at the
age of 17, was with Beat legend Alan Ginsberg at the Smithsonian
Institution. Since 1979, Reed has recorded fifteen critically-acclaimed
albums and three videos. His credits extend to film soundtracks,
commissions for the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, and performances
alongside Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Albert King, Mose Allison,
Linda Ronstadt and many others.
Reed's major performances include an historic live
satellite broadcast on Turkish National Television with
saz player and composer Arif Sag, reaching an audience of
120 million in 17 countries and prompting a flood of international
telephone calls to the station from stunned viewers.
Preston Reed's extraordinary live concerts and constantly
evolving music continue to delight fans and music lovers
the world over.
