Roger Salloom is a superb storyteller in the classic pop/folk singer-songwriter tradition with a great sense of rhythm, timing, engaging delivery, and music that is incredibly infectious. His latest CD, 'Eventually,' is a high watermark in his 37-year career, which began with the legendary Chess Records in 1968. With this new collection, his pop sensibilities show through more than ever, weaving hook-filled song nuggets, yet staying as true as ever to his coffeehouse roots with songs that are both personal and universal at the same time.
'So Glad I Made It,' directed by Chris Sautter, is an off-beat
look at the question of why some artists 'make it' and others
equally talented do not. The film follows former Nashville
resident Roger Salloom, a quirky Bob Dylan-type singer/songwriter
as he tries to revive his career after giving up on the
music business for 20 years. The film includes exclusive
performances by Grammy Award winners The Blind Boys of Alabama
and James Cotton. The Washington Post gave 'So Glad I Made
It' three and a half stars, adding 'Salloom deserves stardom
(after hearing him, you'll see what I mean) - it makes the
story all that more compelling and poignant.' The National
Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences screened the film
in New York City and Nashville in collaboration
with their area chapter offices.
