Santa Mamba
represents a new attitude in cross-cultural harmony.
Where many bands who fall under
the broad classification of 'Latin' consist of musicians
with a shared ethnic heritage, Santa Mamba's story is different.
The personalities involved are true individuals - each coming
from a different time and place. A few of the members came
from small American towns where there was little access
to anything outside of mainstream pop culture. A couple
grew up in American cities with strong ties to Italian and
Portuguese traditions. And some members were born and raised
in Latin American nations, where they were exposed to specific
cultural attitudes and flavors.
The members of Santa Mamba have
little in common, besides that they were all born with a
passion for music and an openness to it in all its varieties
of expression. They have worked hard to claim their sound
as a band.
Each member has brought what
he's learned from a life of loving and studying music. The
resulting sound, forged over time, is best described as
Latin Roots Rock, which has its foundation in a deep love
and firm understanding of various Latin and American musical
traditions, and is given a fresh voice in a unique combination
of styles and personalities.
Their songs celebrate diversity
and life. Though their 2009 release 'Senseo' has been well-received
on the college radio circuit from Portland, Oregon to Machias,
Maine, they take particular pride in their live performance,
and always endeavor to create an experience for the audience.
They set big goals for themselves - their chief ambition
is to get the whole world dancing.
